Pole mounted solar arrays work well in remote applications. Advantages include safety, security, solar access, and snow shedding.

Running utility lines into remote areas is both costly and unsightly. Operating a generator is noisy and requires regular maintenance. Off grid renewable energy systems allow homeowners and others to provide clean, quiet power beyond the utility. With proper design and installation, technologies such as solar electric, small wind and micro-hydro electric are all capable of providing power for remote applications.

Homes, cabins, water pumping systems, telecommunications, RV’s, sign lighting and traffic warning lights are but a few examples of where off grid solar and renewable energy can be utilized.

In a nutshell, off grid renewable energy systems generate DC electricity, which charges DC storage batteries. The charge is controlled by a voltage regulator (or charge controller) and monitored with meters. The stored DC energy is then either used directly to power DC loads or sent to an inverter, which converts DC power into AC power (standard household power).

Battery storage is the key. Stored electrical energy can be used at any time of the day or night. Solar energy is obviously limited to daytime charging while wind and micro-hydro systems have the potential to charge at any time.

Benefits of off grid renewable energy systems include:
• Energy independence.
• No monthly utility bills.
• Cost savings when compared to bringing in utility power.
• Reduced environmental impact.
• Limited changes in lifestyle.

Off grid systems are customized to the client and designed for the specific location.  With a long history of off grid system design and installation, Sunsense is prepared to answer all your questions and craft a solution to meet your remote power needs.

Commercial & Industrial Applications
Solar electricity for off grid applications goes well beyond the residential market.  Numerous commercial and industrial applications exist where electricity is unavailable, unreliable or cost-prohibitive.  A short list includes:
• Telecommunications (microwave/repeaters)
• Water pumping (irrigation and domestic use)
• Lighting systems (security, signs, area lighting)
• Remote monitoring (telemetry)
• Aeration (for lakes and ponds)
• Cathodic protection (corrosion prevention)
Sunsense has designed and installed solar electric systems for many of these applications with excellent success.  Working directly with government agencies, telecom companies and other industrial entities, Sunsense has the full range of services necessary for providing reliable power in any location.
